Fifth Avenue Kitchen

Countries maintain residences and public buildings throughout the world. While some are dedicated for public use, others are personal residences for Ambassadors and alike. However these private properties often serve a dual role as a public place to entertain or host events in a more intimate setting on behalf of the Country and it’s emissaries.

EJD were approached by a New York City based European Consulate to renovate and upgrade a portion of their Ambassador’s Fifth Ave residence. Based in a classic pre-war building, the residence, and specifically certain public areas were in need of more usable space to support increased services and overall needed a refresh in design.

The request included that the dated kitchen have new functionality to better accommodate on-site catered events as well as serve the Ambassador’s needs as a private kitchen.

EJD’s design called for upgrading the U-shaped kitchen island with stainless steel counters and aluminum finished cabinet doors, a new dishwashing station, and appliances. Further, the island is framed by a large L-shaped perimeter with white finished cabinetry, additional counter space along the window, and a more private breakfast bar for personnel and residents. Beyond this feature a smaller staging bar “The Sugar Cube” was designed for supporting coffee, tea and dessert service when entertaining.

Where possible, built-in appliances receive custom panels to match the adjacent cabinetry. New ceiling and countertop lights, and additional recessed window lighting brings in much needed illumination. As common with non-private sector work this project is part of a larger annual budget negotiation and awaits final approval.
