Manhattan Apartment
A newly re-developed New York, Upper East Side apartment with oak plank floors, grey walls and white trim, required an architectural renovation, to complete the program needs of a younger family of five. The scope included a complete interior furnishing package.
The layout of the apartment is organized around a main circulation axis that stretches from East to West. Hallways, an Art Gallery, and three connecting common areas look West while private bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms face East.
The brief and family’s aspirations called for an experience of calm, comfort, clean lines and continuity while maintaining a tailored casualness as guiding design parameters. The program itself required a “surgical” architectural renovation of the recently re-developed apartment. The scope included implementing a more functional plan layout, with requirements for built-in storage throughout, a simplified reflected ceiling plan, as well as adding and replacing architectural and decorative lighting through-out.
The white lacquer panel was introduced as an interior element to function as a vertical, repetitious and binding millwork component, incorporating a new proportion and finish layer, that reflects light and creates an atmosphere of luminance. The recurrent use throughout the apartment, and it’s effortless integration offered further opportunities to create additional storage where unused spaces existed. The final result provides enhanced daylight, increased apartment storage, and continuity of materials and design through-out.
The complete interior package included specifications for purchase of contemporary and 20th Century vintage furniture, window and floor treatment, interior accessories, as well as advisory for collectible and decorative artwork, and an art installation plan. Refer to Interiors for more.
