Fifth Avenue Vestibule

As an extension of a large Fifth Avenue residential apartment renovation, we were asked to update the vestibule for the apartment entry floor. The brief requested to lighten up the dark vestibule and introduce an atmosphere and palette that would set a positive tone, and make one feel happy, and at ease when leaving to start the day or arriving home.

This beautiful prewar limestone building had a grey and beige palette in the large entrance lobby. We chose to introduce a light New York sky color with natural tones of oak and beige that evoke nature and celebrate the building’s vicinity to Central Park, New York’s nature reserve and place for respite.

The sky-blue color was selected to lighten, and frame the space, together with the discrete but still bold wide light blue striped wall covering. The latter enhancing a verticality to transport you upwards. A natural medium toned sisal carpet grounds the space. A custom mirror with integrated console shelf was designed in American white oak to introduce a soft natural finish on the wall relating to the sisal floor covering. A casual color and material palette, yet tailored and comfortable with accents of brass and glass lanterns that ties in with the interior of the existing building lobby.
