A wonderful classic shingle style home in East Hampton, NY was in need of a portico with an outdoor kitchen, dining area, and shade to entertain family and friends beneath a beautiful wisteria canopy.
The project called for a design and profile that was balanced with the home and surrounding gardens. The new structure and furniture plan incorporated an existing brick fireplace at the center of the home’s exterior façade as a point of convergence. The dining table, centered on the fireplace hearth, served as a focal point for friends and family to congregate. An improved rear home entrance now effortlessly connects the outdoor cooking area with the interior kitchen, providing for uncomplicated indoor/outdoor dining.
A separate lounge area was created, with easy access to the inside breakfast room, and offers wonderful views of the gardens and pool area.
The deck, balustrade and trellis structure acts as a semi-outdoor space, and creates a transitional expanse from inside to outside. A wide stairway welcomes you to manicured gardens and an extensive property. The trellis acts as a living roof, and offers a playful shade system complete with hidden bird nests and other hints of nature.
