Reversible Ottoman
For an interior design project, that included an open Living room with access to terrace, a custom ottoman was needed. Due to the layout and size of the Living room area the ottoman had to serve as both footrest and a sofa table when entertaining. In addition, the brief required that the ottoman not make markings in the plush custom wool carpet.
In response to the above requests, the ottoman was designed in dialog with the “propeller stool” with tray, KK87830, by Danish architect Kaare Klint, that serves as sofa side table. The base of the ottoman was detailed with an inset solid oak base, that slides across the carpet with ease.
As the weight of the piece is equally distributed across a large base surface, the ottoman does not make deep markings in the custom carpet. When entertaining the ottoman can be turned upside down to receive the “propeller tray” and serve as a sofa table. This frees up the “propeller stool” and offers an additional seat for guests.
The propeller stool design is a Danish furniture classic. It is both portable, flexible, and can easily be moved around for use inside as well as outside on the client’s adjoining terrace. This makes it very versatile, and a pleasure to create a design dialog with.
