The interior design vision for this project was to create a cohesive interior composition based on design and material continuity, and with an added sense of luminance through all the spaces. The brief called for a City home where you experience calm and comfort through clean lines, and a tailored casualness.

In establishing a contemporary interior that offered a subtle juxtaposition to an otherwise classic prewar apartment a new vocabulary was required. The path chosen incorporated an affluence of light reflective materials that cladded, and wrapped the apartment. A re-occurring white lacquer panel was introduced as a core interior component. It is a vertical, repetitious and binding millwork element that when “superimposed” created a new scale with the existing interiors. The new furniture collection curated for this apartment celebrates a merging of Nordic and Japanese sensibilities. Represented in particular with Danish curated vintage furniture paired with new, and a selection of custom designed furniture pieces by Eva Jensen Design.

The interior scope called for a complete furnishing package that included window and floor treatment, interior accessories, as well as advisory for collectible and decorative artwork, and an art installation plan. A constraint in material use forms the basis of the furniture ensemble. The furnishing color palette is composed of mostly natural materials, taking advantage of nature’s inherent and rich characteristics, and makes use of matted, satin and high gloss finishes. The tonality is set in a white to grey scale accompanied by natural oak, paper cord, taupe leather, glass and steel. The only color introduced is two shades of soft greens. Bright colors and black are for the most part reserved to be experienced through the artwork.

All selected materials are “interwoven” throughout the spaces appearing in different combinations allowing for some interchangeability. This simple theme allows for variations, and creates an ease and openness for further arrangements within the overall interior design composition.
